By having an in game currency that can be purchased by micro-transactions. By 2018, Fortnite had made $2.4b despite it being free to play.

Micro-transactions can be used to by the in game currency "V Bucks" and a battle pass. V Bucks are used to purchase cosmetic items, such as gliders, pickaxes and skins which have no advantage. The battle pass is a purchasable item where you play to earn cosmetic items. By including this, it encourages people to play the game more, leading them into spending more money

Fortnite is a action-based shooter produced by the company 'Epic Games'. It is available on Mac, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and Mobile. In the game you can either play a PvE game mode (commonly known as 'Save the World'). where you fight of zombie hordes in a multiplayer campaign or you can play an 100 player battle-royale. The main target audience is young kids as they use cartoon stylish art and minimize the violence by showing no blood, 'eliminating' people and not killing them.
